WOMEN’S GUILD NEWS

P1020444By Silva Terjanian

The past few months have been very busy and fruitful for the Guild. Foremost, a Big thank you to all members for all of your help. Without all of your joined efforts, hard work, our events could not have been so successful.

The Easter Bake sale, chaired by Maral Karakashian with the help of dedicated volunteers, was a huge success. On April 24, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Genocide, we were all energized proudly welcoming the community and hosting a beautiful reception in our church hall. It was truly a family atmosphere. We kept quoting Barouyr Sevag who wrote: “We are Armenians and proud…We exist, We stand. We are few but we shall grow”.

From May 7-8, Silva Terjanian attended the 29th Women’s Guild Assembly, as our Guild’s representative, during the 113th Diocesan Assembly in Washington D.C. It was a heartwarming experience. We were busy with meetings and attendance at the events of the 100th Commemoration of the Genocide.

On May 17, the Guild celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ (Hampartsoum).   Following the church service, we had a potluck luncheon, chaired by Ala Monokian, and a talent show, followed by a Vijag reading by Maral Karakashian. Everyone had a good time while celebrating our traditions.

On June 14th, Women’s Guild Day, the Guild remembered our 81 deceased members by holding a special Hokehankisd with a candlelight ceremony. The church service was followed by an elaborate coffee hour and chaired by Ofig Jidarian. Silva Terjanian showed power point presentations about Women’s Guild “Year in Review”, Children for Armenia Sponsorship Program (CASP) and Vanadzor Old Age Home, which were prepared by Women’s Guild Central Council (WGCC). She noted that a $500.00 donation was made to CASP by the Guild and highly recommended to get involved and make a difference in a child’s life.

On June 20, the Guild celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Ordination of our Der Hayr and surprised him with a gift from the Guild. Azat Lahham prepared a delicious dinner and the Guild helped with set up and serving at the event. The following day, a Deacon Ordination Ceremony held by

Arch. Khajag Barsamian. It was a memorable day for all of us. The Guild helped with the luncheon following the ceremony. Congratulations to our newly ordained deacons, sub deacons and acolyte.

P1020428Our HYE BAKERY continues to be a success with our delicious treats prepared by dedicated members. We welcome every member’s support and participation.

On a very sad note, we lost one of our long time members, dear Nazeni Nakashian and Azat Lahham’s two brothers. May God rest their soul, Asdvadz Hokeenin Loosavoreh! Our Sunshine Girl, Linda Patruno, sent the sympathy cards to their families, and get well cards to Sona Toufayan and Rose Surenian wishing them a quick recovery.
