Cultural Day at St. Stepanos Armenian Apostolic Church

IMG_3995It has become a tradition to celebrate Armenian culture and heritage in the month of October in recognition of the Holy Translator’s Day.

On Sunday, 10/19/14, St. Stepanos parishioners celebrated Cultural Day in the observation of the Feast of Holy Translators. Among the Holy Translators were Sts. Mesrob, Yeghishe, Moses of Khoronk, philosopher Davit Anhaght, Gregory of Narek and Nerses the Gracious (Nerses of Kla) whose contributions shaped the Armenian language, religion, literature, philosophy, history, and ultimately, the identity of the Armenian people.

Our Pastor Rev. Fr. Daniel celebrated Badarak and immediately after church services St. Stepanos Women’s Guild sponsored a Potluck luncheon. Then, Dr. Asbed Vassilian spoke about the importance of the Holy Translators in relation to the religious, intellectual and cultural development of the Armenian nation and development of the Armenian faith.

The students of the Armenian School presented “The Foolish Man”, a play by the great Hovhannes Toumanian. Performed entirely in Armenian, the well-known tale of a foolish man unable to recognize the gifts and opportunities presented to him through God was enjoyed by all. Over 90 parishioners attended the event.
