Easter Breakfast

On Saturday, April 15th the Sunday and Armenian Schools had their Easter Breakfast which included the Egg fight and the Easter egg hunt. The day started with a short service in the sanctuary conducted by Der Daniel who had the assistance of the Mouradian brothers Dylan and Alek as scripture readers. We then proceeded to the breakfast in the church hall. The kitchen crew comprised of Marie Haytaian, Arlene Heitman, Lori Lombardi, Tammy Mouradian, Armina Hovhannisyan, Tina Vartanian, Eliso Akopyan and Amber Moran had scrambled eggs, bacon, bagels, and pancakes. This was enhanced with grapes, fruits, and desserts. All were brought in by the parents and teachers. Der Hayr blessed the food and the parents and children were served.

With breakfast, the children had egg fights. There were shouts of joy when their egg didn’t crack. I don’t know if other ethnic groups have these egg-cracking contests but it is very definitely an Armenian event. The two final fighters were given a prize each. Some of the children took their cracked eggs and had them at breakfast.

After breakfast we had the Easter egg hunt. Tina Vartanian And Amber Moran set up the egg hunt with eggs on the south side of the church for the little children. The older children had to the front of the church on the east side for their hunt. The weather was good for us. Four of the children found the eggs with the special prize note. There were 5 prizes and one of the children was lucky and got two of them. Der Hayr concluded the breakfast by gathering all the children for a picture. All went home with smiles.

We thank the parents for all of the food donations and all that helped to make this a pleasant event. Seeing our children with big smiles is worth the time and effort for all of us. I made one mistake that we have to correct next year. This breakfast was during spring break for regular school for most of our children. Next year when we schedule the breakfast we will have to have it when there is no spring break. Okay, parents remind me next December.
