“With God, Nothing Shall be Impossible”
On Sunday, April 7, the Armenian Church celebrates the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary: one of five feast days devoted to the blessed mother of Jesus Christ.
It concerns the defining event of Mary’s life: her realization that God had chosen her to be the mother of His Son. The announcement came by way of the angel Gabriel. In her youthful innocence, Mary asked how this could ever come to pass. Gabriel’s reply is one of our greatest expressions of Christian hope: “With God, nothing shall be impossible.” Read the entire touching story at Luke 1:26-38.
Annunciation is one of the few Armenian Church feasts that fall on the same calendar date every year: April 7 – exactly nine months before Theophany. As such, it sometimes falls during Great Lent and the closed curtain during Lenten badarak will be open, with Holy Communion administered to the faithful.

«Վեցերորդ ամսին Գաբրիել հրեշտակը Աստծո կողմից ուղարկվեց Գալիլիայի մի քաղաք, որի անունը Նազարեթ էր, մի կույսի մոտ, որ նշանված էր Հովսեփ անունով մի մարդու հետ՝ Դավթի տնից: Եվ այդ կույսի անունը Մարիամ էր: Եվ հրեշտակը, գալով նրա մոտ, ասաց. «Ուրախացի՛ր, ո՛վ շնորհընկալ, Տերը քեզ հետ է… Մի՛ վախեցի՛ր, Մարիա՛մ, որովհետև Աստծուց դու շնորհ գտար: Եվ ահա՛ դու կհղիանաս և կծնես մի որդի և նրա անունը Հիսուս կդնես: Նա մեծ կլինի և Բարձրյալի որդի կկոչվի: … Ու նրա թագավորությունը վախճան չի ունենա»: (Ղուկ. Ա 26:33): Հրեշտակապետի ավետիսն անակնկալ էր Մարիամի համար, քանի որ նա դեռ տղամարդ չէր ճանաչել: Սակայն, իմանալով իրողությունն, ասաց. «Ահավասիկ ես մնում եմ Տիրոջ աղախինը…» (Ղուկ. 1:38): Սա է ավետման այն գեղեցիկ պատմությունը, որ փոխանցել է մեզ Սուրբ Գիրքը:
