Honoring 35 Years at St. Stepanos Church

St. Stepanos Church in Elberon (Long Branch), New Jersey celebrated 35 years since its Consecration. The ribbon was cut in 1987 by its benefactors, Kevork and Sirvart Hovnanian, with Archbishop Torkom Manougian presiding.
On November 5th the parish of St. Stepanos was honored by the presence of Primate Mesrob Parsamyan who conducted the Badarak. The church service was followed by a luncheon attended by 170 adults and children. A memorable celebration took place with young parishioners who played the piano and sang. Der Daniel Karadjian was honored by the Parish Council, as was the past parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Mamigon Kiledjian, who was also present.

The eNewsletter of the Eastern Diocese reported that “In remarks during an anniversary banquet at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank, the Primate offered words of gratitude to pastor Fr. Daniel and Yn. Mariam Karadjian, as well as to the parish council and auxiliary organizations. “Your leadership is a beacon that guides this congregation,” he said, “and your dedication is a foundation that strengthens it. Tireless in your efforts, you are faithful stewards of God’s work.”

The banquet was an opportunity for the Primate to honor three worthy parishioners for their longtime dedication to the community. Bishop Mesrop presented special certificates of honor to Dr. Terenig Terjanian, for his longtime service on the altar; and to John and Marie Haytaian, for their educational ministry in the parish Sunday and Armenian schools. All three are exemplary and beloved leaders of the Elberon church.

To conclude, the Primate blessed the entire congregation at St. Stepanos. “Your warmth and hospitality embraced me with the kind of love that speaks volumes of your faith,” he said. “Being among you, praying and celebrating Divine Liturgy with you, and feeling warmly welcomed into your spiritual family was an honor and blessing. May the grace of God continue to nourish and sustain this wonderful community and all who are touched by its ministry.”
